Born and raised in Leopold, Nadeika brought her love of lollies home—opening Sweet Treats at Gateway Plaza after years running candy stores in WA. From sherbet and fudge to American treats and gelato tubs, her store is all about sharing joy and nostalgia.

Can you tell us a little about your journey and how Sweet Treats began?
“I grew up in Leopold and loved the community spirit. After starting the store with my sister in WA,  we decided to come home to where we grew up.  I opened a store first in Queenscliff and then stumbled on the opportunity here at Gateway Plaza.  I loved the idea of opening a store where I grew up.  I have about 10 years’ experience running lolly shops in WA and Vic and love seeing the joy on customers’ faces. It’s all about sharing happiness. 

What’s popular with shoppers at the moment?
“Our pick-and-mix selection is always a hit, along with gourmet chocolates, gelato, and sorbet (there is 18 different flavours to choose from). The take-home gelato tubs are a cheeky favourite too!”

What are some of your favourite things in the lolly shop right now?

I’ve always loved lollies—especially sherbets and fudge. My favourite? M&M caramel fudge. And Strawberry Jam ice cream is pretty amazing too!”

What is one thing that surprised you opening a lolly shop here at Gateway Plaza?
“The regulars who come in for their favourites like liquorice Melba Inch blocks, I didn’t see that one being so popular”

What makes Sweet Treats unique?
“We stock a wide range of international goodies, including American confectionery. There’s always something new to discover and my friendly team are always ready to help you find your next favourite treat!”

What do you love most about your job?
“The variety! I love curating our hampers and helping my customers find something sweet that they love”. 

Any hobbies or interests outside of work?
“I’m a big foodie—gnocchi is my go-to—and I love travelling, Italy was definitely a highlight. I’m also into crafting and gifting, like creating custom hampers. Back in the day, I used to make greeting cards!”

Funniest customer moment?
““Ive had some interesting requests for specific sweets, especially for birthday cakes — I’ve become an expert at hunting through jars for that perfect shape or colour!”  With a bit of notice, we can try to source whatever you’re looking for!”

Why is Gateway Plaza a great place to shop?
“I love the community feel, the location near the beach, and the connection to the Bellarine Coast. It’s close to home and full of heart.”

“The lead-up to Christmas is magical, and peak summer is full of energy—everyone’s out enjoying the sunshine!”
